Tenpounder, Giant Herring or Ladyfish [Elops Machnata] also know as Tek Gor [Hokkien] or Kurau Tebu [Malay] is an excellent fighting fish with an extremely fast swimming speed. It is a predatory that lurks mostly in midwater with very fast strikes. It is very common for baiting anglers not to realize that the fish is on hook until seconds later till the fish does an acrobatic jump out of water.

This fish can be found near shores or at open sea, and can be caught during the day or night. It is commonly mistakenly identified for milkfish, which as a rounder girth, smaller mouth and a longer fork tail. For baiting, the fish can normally be caught on prawns and baitfish. They also strikes artificial lures readily.

It's an edible fish but has lots of bones and should be carefully prepared and eaten.
