The National Parks Board is considering lifting a ban on live bait at Woodlands Waterfront Jetty, after an angler wrote to them on this.
National Parks is now working with him and his regular anglers to self-police, and get all to adopt the correct way to preparing live bait. This will then make the ban unnecessary and irrelevant,' said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan in his blog on Sunday. The Straits Times understands, however, than the ban will not be lifted immediately.
The ban was imposed after anglers prepared live bait on the floor and did not clean up after themselves. This left behind a stench and attracted flies, said Mr Khaw, who added that the park had to 'reluctantly' discourage live bait at the jetty.
This, he said, is 'not a good solution as it affects the fishing experience of anglers'. The best solution, he said, is for the community and anglers to take ownership of the jetty's cleanliness.
